Who I am & What I do

My name is Claire Waterhouse & I am a potter & teacher, based at Milford, in Surrey, UK.

I specialise in throwing on the potter’s wheel, and offer one-to-one tuition. Teaching is totally flexible and you are welcome to visit me by appointment.

My work is mainly wheel thrown using white clay & coloured slips. I make pots with a mind to share the pleasure of use, and particularly with thought of presentation in the kitchen. My pots are all hand crafted, affordable, and a British product, to enjoy everyday.

I use simple forms and crisp shapes and I particularly enjoy turning and refining the surface. Sympathetic consideration informs the decoration, and I love colour.

I work on small batches of items, which allows me to stop to reflect on success of pieces.

Whilst I relish the private time that I am able to spend in my studio, I equally enjoy sharing my skills with others.

Parties, Workshops, Classes & Tuition

I work from my garden studio, a purposefully designed and fully equipped pottery classroom housed in a 18 X 12 foot cabin shed. Whilst relishing the time that I am able to spend in my studio developing my own style, I also enjoy sharing my skills and space with others and hope that you find it inspirational too.

I offer a discounted Introductory Lesson Gift Voucher, for £70 for a 2 hour lesson. This includes a full demonstration of the process of throwing on the potters wheel, and there is then time for you to make 2 pots.

It’s fine if you want to come to enjoy your time with a friend; I don’t charge any extra for a twin introductory lesson- it just simply means that you enjoy your shared time together, and you both learn through observing during the lesson.

To organise a personalised Gift Voucher, just send me the message that you’d like me to include and I will prepare it for you, and forward by email, ready for you to print out, or simply forward to your friend. I send full details and payment instruction when I send the voucher to you. It’s simple, and very fast!

Gift vouchers are valid for 1 year from the purchase date.

After the discounted intoductory session, tuition costs are £80 for a two hour lesson. (From April 1st 2018 this price will increase to £90)

For students who are more advanced, I can provide two wheels at the cost of £60 pp for a 2 hour lesson.
